The Relationship Between Birth Control Facts and Social Values

Today, researchers are starting to realize that there are some very serious consequences to ignoring the situations that teenagers find themselves in.  Among other things, the switch to a focus on abstinence as the main expression of birth control facts has caused a significant increase in teenage births.   Unfortunately, the toll on the health of children born to under age women, as well as the toll on the mother's long term health is likely to be very high. It seems that when people make decisions about birth control facts based on social values, they need to consider a wide range of issues.   Along with choosing careers, and developing social networks, teens are under a tremendous amount of pressure from their peers to be “adult” as soon as possible.  Birth control facts that discuss only abstinence do not effectively address the observation that consensual sex is one of the most famous marks of adulthood. Considering all the hazards of failing to provide effective birth control facts, perhaps certain groups should seriously consider what values and ideals they are projecting.  While they may feel it is their duty to raise a healthy society, perhaps they must also understand that they cannot live everyone's life for them.  The teen years are filled with the struggle for self identity and unique expression.  By tagging moral and social values onto birth control facts, it should be readily apparent why abstinence programs may have a negative effect on long term spiritual health as well as management of sexual activity. Birth control facts regulators should also include some direct and full disclosures about other social and moral beliefs held by them.   Irregardless of what your religious or political beliefs are, it seems that birth control facts expressed in social contexts can go a long way to helping teenagers understand the complexities of managing their reproductive choices.  As an example, when faced with a denial of information about condoms, teenagers also need to be explicitly told about teaching groups beliefs on waging war with other nations.  Perhaps these groups can also share the horrible grief that comes with losing a child during a war.   Along with this, birth control facts regulators that support abstinence only education, need to discuss the financial cost of raising a child.   At the same time, they should disclose what their political affiliates and lobbyists have done in the way of making more government money available for things like child health care, food stamps, and HEAP.   It seems that a good discussion about where all of that money will come from will be of enormous benefit in helping teenagers speak up about the kinds of birth control facts they feel a need to have.    Perhaps once teenagers begin to evaluate their sexual freedom within certain social contexts, they will come to realize that taking an active role in shaping society is very important.  Birth control facts in and of themselves are very basic and predictable.  Unfortunately, when we try to deny people information about certain methods, we are also creating a number of social, financial, and health related burdens.
